What is the Social Skills Group?
This five-week summer program is designed to enhance your child’s social awareness and support their journey in building meaningful, lasting peer relationships. Guided by empathy, rooted in play, and backed by evidence based techniques, this group offers a unique blend of structure and freedom, helping children feel seen, supported, and capable.
Who It’s For
This group is designed for children ages 7–9 who could benefit from gentle, structured support in navigating friendships, communication, and everyday social situations. It is best suited for children who can adhere to typical classroom setting expectations such as self control of his or her body, communicate verbally, and follow directions.
What You and Your Child Can Expect
Each week, we’ll focus on a specific social skill—such as active listening, expressing feelings, managing frustration, sharing space, and joining in play. We’ll explore these topics through:
- Engaging activities and games
- Books and stories that spark discussion
- Creative projects and crafts
- Guided group conversations
- Unstructured play to practice in real time
This balanced approach helps children internalize what they’ve learned in a natural, low-pressure environment.
Support for Parents Too
At the end of each session, you’ll receive a handout with a summary of the weekly topic and simple, practical ways to reinforce these skills at home all summer long. By practicing the skills with your child, you will help them turn these new skills into lifelong habits. It is my goal to not only assist your child with social skills, but to deepen their understanding that they are capable of connection and belonging.
