What can I expect from therapy at Mindful Path?
It can be challenging to ask for help. Deciding to attend therapy is a brave and oftentimes daunting decision. I am so glad you have taken the first step.
After a person schedules their first therapy session, it is common to have some anxiety leading up to it. Worries such as “is this going to be awkward?” or “How do I find the words to explain why I am even here?” often go through a person’s mind. I am here to tell you that I will provide you with a relaxed and supportive space where you can unpack what is on your mind, at your own pace. Together, we will establish a comfortable and trusting relationship.
At Mindful Path, therapy is individualized and tailored to your needs. We will work together to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors with the goal of developing coping skills and deepening your sense of self.
How do I know if therapy is needed?
Oftentimes it can be obvious when a child needs help. We may notice changes in their mood or behavior at home or at school. Other times, it can be more difficult to see the signs. Some children internalize their emotions, making it more difficult to identify that they need support. Therapy can offer a space for them to understand and process their feelings, resulting in enhanced emotional well-being and expanding upon personal potential.
Whether or not signs are present, I am a strong believer that therapy benefits everyone, even the most well adjusted individual. I believe this because there is no end point to personal growth and development. We are constantly changing and learning about ourselves. Attending therapy can help a person embrace and foster this continuous journey.
Is the Social Skills Group right for my child?
This group is designed to enhance your child’s ability to create and sustain healthy friendships and build upon existing skills. During the group, we will focus on learning more about key social skills such as conflict resolution, considering other people’s perspectives, and effective communication skills. We will also explore WHY these skills are important tools to have.
If your child is between the ages of 7-9 and could use additional support in social situations—this group could be a great fit. Your child will practice concepts through play based activities, group discussion, and unstructured play. I am confident that this will be both a fun and meaningful experience for your child.
It is best suited for children who can adhere to typical classroom setting expectations such as self control of his or her body, communicate verbally, and follow directions.
You will also receive a weekly handout with a summary of the activities that took place and recommendations on how to continue building these skills at home.

What if my child won’t open up?
It is common for children to be hesitant about therapy, especially if they’ve never been before. Mindful Path focuses on using a play-based approach that encourages children to express themselves through activities, games, and crafts. Over time, this non-judgmental space helps them build trust and become more comfortable talking about their emotions.
It is perfectly acceptable if it takes time for your child to open up. I aim to meet people where they are and allow for them to set the pace. Meaningful change takes time. I encourage you to keep in mind that this journey is about progress, not perfection.
